Acclaimed author of Dead Man Walking and The Death of Innocents
Sister Helen Prejean, author of the international bestseller Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States, has been at the forefront of the anti-death penalty in the United States for several decades. She joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Medaille in 1957. In the early 1980s, Prejean became involved with prison ministry, counseling death row inmates in the Louisiana State Penitentiary. She also works with murder victims' families and founded Survive, a victims' advocacy group in New Orleans.
